Class Code: 9061

Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:

Code 9061 is applied to insureds engaged in the operation of clubs not classified to Codes 9060 or 9063. This classification is applicable to risks where the majority of employees (excluding restaurant and bar employees) work indoors.

Clubs generally fitting the above description include business, social and athletic clubs in addition to fraternal societies or orders such as the Knights of Columbus, the B.P.O. of Elks and Masonic lodges. These clubs may have extensive or limited facilities and services depending upon the type of club.

Code 9061 contemplates clerical office employees and any employees involved in the operation of the facilities typically found in a club. This may include employees working in dining rooms, snack and liquor bars, lounge rooms, reading rooms, card rooms, billiard rooms, bowling lanes, swimming pools and those employees who clean or prepare sleeping accommodations. All fraternity or sorority house employees are also assigned to Code 9061.

Social or business clubs that do not have their own premises or facilities for their club activities are not contemplated by Code 9061. If these clubs only employ clerical personnel whose duties are exclusively that of bookkeeping, record keeping and handling of correspondence, these employees are assigned to Code 8810. These clubs conduct their meetings and social events in restaurants, and public or private meeting rooms or halls that are not operated by the club.

Certain Code 9061 operations are designated as “not otherwise classified” (NOC). These NOC operations shall apply to an insured only when no other classification more specifically describes the insured’s operations. The following is a representative list of classifications somewhat related in nature to Code 9061 operations that are not assigned to Code 9061:

9060 Club—Country, Golf, Fishing or Yacht
8279 Club—Riding & Drivers
9180 Club—Shooting
9063 Exercise Institute
9084 Nightclub
9077F United States Armed Service Risk (Clubs)

In addition to this representative list, one should review sources such as the alphabetical index in this manual to determine whether a classification other than Code 9061 or a classification other than a classification on the above list is applicable to the operations being reviewed for classification purposes.
