Class Code: 9016
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Code 9016 is applied to insureds engaged in the operation of amusement parks or exhibitions at a fixed location whether operated by owners or lessees. The classification includes the care, custody and maintenance of the premises; operation of elevators or heating, lighting or power apparatus as well as security people, musicians, box office employees and gate attendants. It does not include the operation of amusement devices, amusements or exhibitions or other operations separately classified in the manual, whether operated by the owner or lessee of the exhibition or amusement park or by independent concession.
Code 9016 has been applied to concessions renting boats in parks (not boat liveries); shooting galleries using air rifles (not firearms); archery ranges; ball or dart throwing at targets; baseball batting ranges; miniature golf courses; golf driving ranges; public tennis courts and the maintenance of pony tracks. Additionally, this classification has been applied to permanently located arenas or stadiums where rodeos, circuses, dolphin exhibitions, ice shows, boat shows, automobile shows, food shows, etc., may be held; speedways where automobile races may be held or tracks where stock car or jalopy races may be held; arenas where boxing or wrestling matches may be held and horse and dog racing tracks, including starters and their assistants and all employees other than racing officials, pari-mutuel clerks and cashiers, stable hands or kennel employees. Refer to Code 9182 for arenas where other sporting events are held such as, but not limited to, basketball, baseball, soccer, football and hockey. Code 9016 includes caves or caverns operated for exhibition purposes. These risks will generally employ tour guides, ticket sellers, gate attendants and maintenance employees. Tour guides conducting field trips within state parks also have been assigned to this classification by analogy.
As evidenced by two cross-reference phraseologies of Code 9016, it also is applied to insureds engaged in the operation of dog and horse shows whether operated by owners or lessees. It includes the care, custody and maintenance of the premises, musicians and box office employees. It does not include kennel employees or stable employees or the operation or maintenance of amusement devices.
Additionally, Code 9016 is applied to insureds engaged in the operation of ice-skating rinks whether operated by owners or lessees. It includes the care, custody and maintenance of the premises, musicians and box office employees. It does not include the operation or maintenance of amusement devices.
Refer to Code 9093 for roller-skating rinks.
Massachusetts Code 9016 also applies to the operation of ice or roller skating rinks.
Refer to Code 8279 for recreational facilities offering pony rides. This classification is all-inclusive and contemplates those employees engaged exclusively in the maintenance of pony tracks.
Code 9016 is assigned to ski area parking lot, snow removal and snow making employees.
Additionally, Code 9016 is applied, by analogy, to insureds whose business is operating cross-country ski trails. Cross-country ski instructors employed by these insureds are included under Code 9016.
