Class Code: 8353
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Code 8353 applies to employers selling liquefied petroleum gas (L.P.G.). These employers purchase the L.P.G. from refineries, and the gas is received via tank trucks or railroad tank cars. The fuel is pumped into large storage tanks at main premises or other tank sites within the employer’s service areas. The employers establish regular accounts of users of this type of fuel, both residential or commercial, and supply storage tanks of various sizes to these customers, or users will purchase their own tanks. The dealers have truck drivers who drive tank wagons to make deliveries along regular routes. They are sometimes referred to as “bobtails.” The tanks are filled and drivers haul fuel on routes and fill customers’ tanks. Customers are billed for amounts pumped into their tanks on a gallon basis.
These employers usually sell and install appliances that use L.P.G. such as ranges, ovens, gas refrigerators, clothes dryers, water heaters, and tobacco barn dryers. The salespersons sell these units to the L.P.G customers. The servicemen deliver the units, set them in place, and run pipes or tubing from the tanks to the appliance. They also install gas meters and make service calls to get appliances functioning properly. They may also install floor furnaces, as well as central heating and air conditioning equipment including incidental duct work, registers, etc., as the jobs require.
