Class Code: 8203
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Code 8203 is applied to all types of ice manufacturing as well as distribution centers located away from ice manufacturing plants. Types of ice include but are not limited to ice cubes, ice blocks, ice cakes and harvested ice. Ice cubes, often referred to as tube ice, are formed in automatic ice-making units. This is a bagged product, usually sold and delivered to restaurants, service stations, grocery stores, etc., or it may be delivered to coin-operated dispensing machines.
Code 8203 operations involve the tending of the refrigeration compressor system and water treatment, and the forming, freezing and pulling of ice products. Additional operations include the scoring, cutting, sawing or crushing of the ice blocks and operation of the platform for purposes of loading ice. The creation of ice sculptures is also contemplated in Code 8203.
This classification is also applied to an insured who, in the winter months, harvests ice from lakes, ponds, or other bodies of water that have frozen over to a suitable thickness by cutting the ice in blocks and storing. This stored ice is removed from storage and delivered to customers in the warmer months as needed.
Ice distribution centers may have storage operations where employees remove ice products from storage for sale on a cash-and-carry basis or deliver ice products to the distributor’s customers.
