Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Code 8106 is applied to insureds engaged in the sale of miscellaneous iron or steel products obtained from steel mills in the form of beams, sheet steel, bars, rods, rounds, channel iron, angles, plates, etc. Additionally, this classification is applied by analogy to the merchandising of non-ferrous metals, e.g., copper, brass, aluminum, etc., received in the form of sheets, tubes, coils, bars and rods, and “metal service centers (not junk or scrap dealers) and drivers.” The products received by these insureds are unloaded, usually by overhead cranes, and stored until such time as they are cut, sheared and formed to customer specifications and delivered by truck or rail. The processing operations involve the use of power equipment such as shears, hacksaws, drills, benders and cutting torches. Specialists engaged principally in merchandising reinforcing rods or bars to concrete contractors, including cutting and forming the rods or bars according to the contractors’ specifications, also are assigned to Code 8106, as are wholesale or retail dealers principally engaged in selling wire, cable or metal conduit.
The sale and warehousing of oil well drilling rigs is additionally contemplated by Code 8106.
