Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:

Code 7540 is applied to insureds engaged in the operation of electric light or power cooperatives financed by the rural electrification administration. This classification contemplates all employees of such cooperatives including store employees, meter readers and drivers. Some cooperatives may purchase their power from other utility companies or they may maintain their own power plants wherein their employees operate instrument and control panels for operation of turbo-generators, water pumps, etc.; maintain and repair the cooperatives’ equipment; and maintain and repair outside lines. Code 7540 does not contemplate the construction of buildings, dams or reservoirs and as indicated in this classification’s footnote, superintendents, easement solicitors and project coordinators from the time of project initiation to the energizing of any portion of the system are to be assigned to Code 8721. While clearing of right-of-ways, pole or tower erection, stringing of high tension wires, installation of circuit breakers and transformers on poles and the laying of underground cables when undertaken by employees of these cooperatives also are contemplated within the scope of 7540, such operations are generally sublet to insured independent contractors subject to separate classification treatment.
