Class Code: 6854

Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:

This classification applies to the construction of iron or steel commercial vessels regardless of type or size such as but not limited to tugs, scows, lighters, barges and launches.

This classification has been assigned to the fabrication of floating oil drilling platforms and to the construction of floating dry docks when iron or steel is the principal material used in their construction. This classification has been assigned to risks contracting solely in the laying of ship keels.

The machine shop classification, Code 3632, is not permitted for a division of payroll with respect to maintenance machine shops.

Code 6854 operations are designated as “not otherwise classified” (NOC). These NOC operations shall apply to an insured only when no other classification more specifically describes the insured’s operations. The following is a representative list of classifications somewhat related in nature to Code 6854 operations that are not assigned to Code 6854:

In addition to this representative list, one should review sources such as the alphabetical index in this manual to determine whether a classification other than Code 6854 or a classification other than one on the above list is applicable to the operations being reviewed for classification purposes.
