Class Code: 5951
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Code 5951 is applied to insureds engaged in serum, anti-toxin or virus manufacturing. In addition to laboratory work of a microscopic analysis character, it is customary for these insureds to handle livestock purchased from others. The livestock are injected with bacteria, viruses, etc., and after becoming ill they are bled periodically and subsequently killed. The killing of the livestock is incidental to this classification in as much as the sole purpose of such operation is to obtain the glands and blood for the production of the serum. There is no further treatment of the carcass in the operations of insureds of this character. The operations involve the extracting of serum from the glands and the separating of the red corpuscles from the blood. There may be some pasteurizing operations and preservatives are added. The products are then bottled, labeled and packed in boxes, ready for shipment.
