Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Code 5479 is reserved for specialist contractors installing or applying the various types of acoustical or thermal insulating materials in buildings or within building walls. Representative materials used are the flexible type in the form of blankets or quilts; loose fills or mineral substances in granulated, powder, cellulose or fibrous wood forms; pads and bats of mineral wool; slabs of cork board or wood fiber; rigid type such as wood and sugarcane fiberboard and the reflective type often consisting of aluminum foil encased in paper. The method of installing the various types of insulation are generally by hand, blower, nailing or by cementing with special adhesive.
Code 5479 applies only when insulation or acoustical work is performed as a separate operation not part of, or incidental to, any other construction operation performed by the same contractor at the same job or location.
Code 5479 is not applicable to the installation of suspended acoustical grid-type ceiling installations. Refer to Scope 5020 for this exposure.
Code 5479 operations are designated as “not otherwise classified” (NOC). These NOC operations shall apply to an insured only when no other classification more specifically describes the insured’s operations. The following is a representative list of classifications somewhat related in nature to Code 5479 operations that are not assigned to Code 5479:
