Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:

Code 5443 is applied to contractors engaged in interior or exterior lathing work. Lathing involves the nailing of thin wood or metal strips to studs or joists, which are used to support the application of plaster or stucco within buildings or on the outside of buildings.

Code 5022—Masonry is applied to plastering or stucco work on building exteriors. Code 5443 is applied in addition to Code 5022 for operations that involve the placing of wood lath, non-reinforcing metal lath or wire meshing prior to the application of the plaster or stucco.

As indicated in this classification’s footnote, metal lathing used as reinforcement for concrete is assigned to the appropriate concrete construction classification. Metal lathing which is placed for use in support of plastering or stucco work is assigned to Code 5443.
