Class Code: 5188
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Code 5188 is applicable to insureds engaged in the installation of various types of automatic sprinkler systems such as, but not limited to, those that contain chemicals that dissolve at certain temperatures to permit water to flow from the system’s pipes. It is also applicable to dry-head sprinklers that use air to block the flow of water from the pipes until a certain temperature is reached. Deluge systems are used at sites where it is anticipated that high flows of water will be necessary to control fires.
Code 5188 encompasses both shop and field operations. Shop operations consist of the preparation of the various sizes of pipe by cutting and threading as well as the selection of materials fittings, such as heads, couplings, valves, hangers, regulators and alarms that will be installed at the job site. Incidental cutting or threading may be performed at the job site if difficulty arises in the running of sprinkler lines through walls and floors. The majority of the piping is done at ceiling level, which requires extensive work on staging (a temporary or movable platform for workers to stand or sit on when working at a height above the floor).
Please refer to Code 5403 for extra-territorial premium determination guidelines that may be applicable to insureds that have operations outside their headquarter’s state.
