Code 4717 is applicable to the manufacture of butter substitutes such as vegetable margarine, which has a base of vegetable oils, i.e., cottonseed, soybean, corn, etc., and combined with milk solids and such additives as salt, vitamins, preservatives, etc. Manufacturing involves the machine blending of ingredients in large mixing vats and the pumping of the liquid into congealing tanks from which it is sent in hoppers to the forming machines. Formed margarine is packaged, weighed, placed in cardboard boxes and shipped. Applicable to the hydrogenation of oils, the incidental manufacture of hydrogen and the incidental refining of crude vegetable oil are preparatory to hydrogenation.
