Class Code: 4459
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Code 4459 is applied to insureds engaged in the manufacture of plastic molding materials which may further be manufactured by an extrusion process into sheets, rods and tubes. Inert raw materials, fillers, plasticizers, stabilizers and pigments are received from others. The operations may involve mixing and grinding of the ingredients to produce pellets, granules, powder and liquid dispersions, or the raw materials may be used as received without the need for mixing and grinding. Raw materials, whether mixed or ground or used as received, are processed into sheets, rods and tubes by a continuous extrusion of the plastic material under pressure through a die orifice, which has the required shape of the desired profile. Plastic products such as pipes, weather stripping, screen splines, etc., fall within the scope of this classification provided they are produced by extrusion.
Code 4459 additionally contemplates the manufacture of pyroxylin, which involves the low nitration of cellulose, received from others, to produce soluble nitrocellulose used in the preparation of lacquers or pyroxylin plastics. Pyroxylin or nitrocellulose, plasticizer and color are mixed and milled, and sheets, rods or tubes are produced by extrusion.
This classification does not contemplate the high nitration of cellulose used in the manufacture of explosives. Refer to Codes 4828 and 4829 for this and any other work involving chemical-related operations which may be contemplated by these two chemical processing classifications. Separate classifications also apply to molders of plastic products by injection or compression molding and fabricators of plastic products made from sheets, rods or tubes. Refer to Codes 4452 and 4484 for these exposures.
