Class Code: 3803
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Code 3803 is applied to insureds engaged in the manufacture of automobile wheels made of metal. The wheels include rims and drum housings. The raw materials, strip and sheet steel and paint, are received from others. Strip steel of specific thickness is run through automatic forming presses, the dies on the presses being varied in size according to the width of the rim and the diameter of the wheel. After forming, the rims are run through a flanging machine which turns the edges. Finally, lug and tire valve holes are drilled and the rims are inspected prior to being spray painted. Drum housings are also formed on presses from sheet steel. However, the inside surfaces, which enclose the brake parts, are turned down on a lathe or ground to precise tolerances. Axle or hub holes are drilled dead center, lug bolts are welded to match the holes in the wheel rim and the units are then subject to final inspection.
