Class Code: 3685
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Applies to employers that manufacture professional or scientific instruments designed for use in research or work that is strictly of a professional nature. The operations will vary depending upon the product being produced, and could involve some stamping, machining and heat-treating. However, component parts are usually manufactured by other concerns, and employers assigned to Code 3685 will perform a substantial proportion of hand assembling, testing and packaging operations. Some of the products of employers assigned to Code 3685 are surveyors’ instruments, assay balances including weights, thermometers, dental or surgical instruments, ear, nose and throat lamps, ether-suction machines, scientific testing instruments, static machines, drawing instruments, electro-physical therapy equipment, X-ray apparatus, aircraft instruments and various electrical testing instruments.
Certain Code 3685 operations are designated as “not otherwise classified” (NOC). These NOC operations must apply to an employer only when no other classification more specifically describes the employer’s operations. The following is a representative list of classifications somewhat related in nature to Code 3685 operations that are not assigned to Code 3685:
|Computing, Recording or Office Machine Mfg.
|Musical Instrument Mfg.—Metal—NOC
|Musical Instrument Mfg.—Wood—NOC
In addition to this representative list, one should review sources such as the alphabetical index in this manual to determine whether a classification other than Code 3685 or a classification other than one on the above list is applicable to the operations being reviewed for classification purposes.
