Class Code: 3612
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Code 3612 is applicable to the manufacture of all types of pumps excluding the manufacture of automobile fuel pumps, which is classified to Code 3581.
This classification additionally contemplates the manufacture of engines that are not otherwise classified, an example of which is outboard engine manufacturing.
Basic materials used in the manufacturing process may consist of components made of various metals or plastic and may include rough castings, pipe, tubing and electrical components. The component parts described may be machined by the Code 3612 risk or received from others.
Equipment used to manufacture pumps or engines is similar to equipment typically found in a machine shop and may include lathes, drill presses, grinders, millers, planers, saws, shapers, shears and screw machines. Also buffers, sandblasters, welding equipment, cutting tools and spray painting equipment may be utilized. The operations involve the machining of castings and the installation of subassemblies by hand or with portable electric or air tools.
There is extensive inspection and testing of the products followed by packing and shipping.
Code 3612 additionally is applicable to the manufacture of a variety of devices run by or using compressed air (pneumatic) or using fluids under pressure (hydraulic). Examples of these devices include the manufacture of pneumatic drills, riveters, hammers and hydraulic devices such as hydraulic jacks or auto lifts.
Insureds that manufacture cleaning devices that operate by using water under pressure or that manufacture portable watering devices are assigned by analogy to Code 3612, the analogy being that these are hydraulic devices as defined above.
The repair and service of the products described in this scope are classified to Code 3612 when these operations take place in a shop. Pump installation, service or repair at a customer’s premises is classified to Code 3724 for work performed at an insured’s commercial accounts and Code 5183 for work performed at an insured’s domestic or residential accounts. Refer to the appropriate Oil or Gas classification for field work regarding pumps of this nature.
Certain Code 3612 operations are designated as “not otherwise classified” (NOC). These NOC operations shall apply to an insured only when no other classification more specifically describes the insured’s operations. The following is a representative list of operations somewhat related in nature to Code 3612 operations that are not assigned to Code 3612.
|Aircraft Engine Mfg.
|Automobile Engine Mfg.
|Traction Engine Mfg.
In addition to this representative list, one should review sources such as the alphabetical index in this manual to determine whether a classification other than Code 3612 or a classification other than a classification on the above list is applicable to the operations being reviewed for classification purposes.
Massachusetts Code 3612 is applicable to the manufacture of all types of pumps including the manufacture of automobile fuel pumps, super or turbo chargers and fuel injectors.
