Class Code: 3548
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Printing or bookbinding machine manufacturing: Code 3548 applies to the manufacture of such products as printing presses, automatic press feeders, stitchers, folders, cutters, trimmers, perforators, punchers, stereotype machines, collating machines, bookbinding machines and other miscellaneous equipment used by the printing or bookbinding trades.
The raw materials consist of sheet metal frame parts, steel bar stock, iron and aluminum castings, mechanical component parts, electric motors, chains and chain sprockets.
Parts are machined with turret lathes, milling machines, cutters, grinders, and drill presses. Parts are welded or bolted together. Some wooden parts require sawing and fitting. The machines are then assembled, painted and dried. Electric motors are installed together with the electrical wiring. The completed machines are then inspected, tested, crated and shipped.
Arms Mfg. NOC—Code 3548 applies to the manufacture of heavy military ordnance such as guns that are 20mm and larger. This includes anti-aircraft guns, tank guns, artillery cannons, aircraft cannons and naval guns.
The classification also applies to the manufacture of other ordnance such as gun carriages, torpedoes, torpedo tubes and airplane gun turrets.
Some articles will be processed from steel plate or angle iron. Other products require the machining of forgings, steel castings and stampings. In some instances, the products are assembled from prefabricated parts that are received from outside sources.
Certain Code 3548 operations are designated as “not otherwise classified” (NOC). These NOC operations shall apply to an insured only when no other classification more specifically describes the insured’s operations. The following is a representative list of operations somewhat related in nature to Code 3548 operations that are not assigned to Code 3548.

In addition to this representative list, one should review sources such as the alphabetical index in this manual to determine whether a classification other than Code 3548 or a classification other than a classification on the above list is applicable to the operations being reviewed for classification purposes.
Massachusetts Refer to Code 3200 for risks engaged in small arms manufacture.
