Class Code: 3507
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Applies to the manufacture of agricultural machinery such as mowing machines, reapers and binders, hay loaders, potato planters, etc. Code 3507 also applies to the manufacture of many other types of heavy machinery and equipment as evidenced by its cross-reference phraseologies.
The equipment involves the use of welding and machine shop apparatus including shears, punch presses, turret and engine lathes, drill presses, milling machines, grinders, boring mills and gear shapers. In general, castings are processed with the machine shop equipment, or steel framing is cut to size or other steel parts are shaped on power rolls. Assembling of parts is by welding or bolting.
In instances where the employer has a foundry to cast individual parts, the foundry is considered as incidental to Code 3507.
Code 3507 is also assigned to the manufacture and fabrication of screw and belt-type conveyors, sidewalk sweepers and cleaners, sewer pumping station equipment, packing case equipment, hydraulic baling presses used in the automobile dismantling and junk business, pile driving equipment, pneumatic unloaders including conveyor systems used in unloading boxcars, pollution control and dust collector systems, water screen baskets, conveyor buckets and blow chutes used in sawmills, pulp and paper mills, hoisting equipment including overhead crane manufacturing, tractor manufacturing of the Caterpillar type and other products in which the manufacturing or fabricating process involves the use of heavy-gauge metal, welding, riveting, bolting, etc.
Refer to Code 3126 for agricultural tool manufacturing. Code 3507 is distinguished from Code 3126 by the fact that Code 3507 includes the manufacture of heavy equipment such as hoisting and tractor manufacturing whereas Code 3126 includes the manufacture of “lighter” products such as picks, shovels and sledgehammers.
Certain Code 3507 operations are designated as “not otherwise classified” (NOC). These NOC operations apply to an employer only when no other classification more specifically describes the employer’s operations. The following is a representative list of classifications somewhat related in nature to Code 3507 operations that are not assigned to Code 3507:
3632 Machine Shop NOC
3724 Machinery or Equipment Erection
3126 Tool Mfg.—Agricultural, Construction, Logging, Mining, Oil or Artesian Well
In addition to this representative list, one should review sources such as the alphabetical index in this manual to determine whether a classification other than Code 3507 or a classification other than one on the above list is applicable to the operations being reviewed for classification purposes.
