Class Code: 3400

Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:

Code 3400 is intended primarily for insureds whose operations involve extensive stamping, punching or blanking of sheet metal as well as shearing and braking operations. While fine finishing operations such as machining, plating and polishing are not usual to this classification, it does contemplate a fair amount of incidental assembling and enameling operations.

Code 3400 further contemplates the manufacture of tools and dies when conducted principally for use in the sheet metal stamping operations of an insured classified under Code 3400.

Code 3400 is applicable to insureds that engage in the mass production of small metal articles such as cookie sheets, license plates, mailboxes, metal toys, etc. Additional manufacturing operations covered by Code 3400 include:

1.    Auto Parts Mfg.—Miscellaneous Parts, Such as Fenders
2.    Barrel or Drum Mfg.—Steel
3.    Barrel or Drum Mfg.—Steel—Reconditioning or Repair
4.    Metal Tag Mfg.—Stamped
5.    Tinware Mfg.—Pie Plates, Buckets, Pails, Wastebaskets, Ash Cans, Dustpans

Certain Code 3400 operations are designated as “not otherwise classified” (NOC). These NOC operations shall apply to an insured only when no other classification more specifically describes the insured’s operations. The following is a representative list of classifications somewhat related in nature to Code 3400 operations that are not assigned to Code 3400:
