Class Code: 3373
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
This classification applies to the coating of metals with other metals and to operations involving the application of chemical solutions to metals. Galvanizing generally requires the application of molten zinc to metals as a protection against corrosion.
Tinning is the process where molten tin is applied to a metal to prevent tarnishing. These operations are performed by specialists on a contract basis for other entities.
Other applications involve the rustproofing of tools or other articles by dipping in sulphuric acid solutions and the lead coating of tanks where thin lead sheets are applied to the interior surfaces with the aid of extreme heat.
Code 3373 contemplates so-called chemical milling, where metal articles are immersed in tanks containing a caustic alkali solution without the use of an electrical charge. This places a protective coating on the metal.
In other instances the classification is used for coating of steel wire with aluminum.
