Class Code: 3188
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Code 3188 is applied to insureds engaged in the manufacture of a wide variety of products used by the plumbing trade. Some of the products manufactured are expansion joints, couplings, unions, elbows, tees, crosses, returns, lock nuts, flanges, plugs, faucets and similar plumbing fittings. The processes involve various operations depending upon the items being produced. These operations may include incidental ferrous or non-ferrous foundry operations, machining, sheet metal forming, welding, heat-treating, pipe cutting or bending, threading, reaming and a substantial amount of plating, polishing, assembling, inspecting and packaging.
Code 3188 operations are designated as “not otherwise classified” (NOC). These NOC operations shall apply to an insured only when no other classification more specifically describes the insured’s operations. The following is a representative list of classifications somewhat related in nature to Code 3188 operations that are not assigned to Code 3188:
|Brass or Copper Goods Mfg.
|Pipe or Tube Mfg.—Iron or Steel—& Drivers
|Tool Mfg.—Drop or Machine Forged
|Tool Mfg.—Not Drop or Machine Forged
|Valve or Water Meter Mfg.
In addition to this representative list, one should review sources such as the alphabetical index in this manual to determine whether a classification other than Code 3188 or a classification other than one on the above list is applicable to the operations being reviewed for classification purposes.
