Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Code 3110 is applied to insureds engaged in forging iron or steel shapes such as engine parts, shafts, hooks, chains, etc. Forging refers to the heating of metal in a furnace or hearth and beating or hammering the heated metal into the desired shape as well as forming metal by a mechanical or hydraulic press with or without heat. The classification is also applied to insureds engaged in the production of steel forgings for tools such as screwdrivers, chisels, hammers and other hand tools. Both non-tool forgings and tool forgings are produced by drop or trip hammers or forming presses. All forgings are trimmed, ground and tempered by heat-treating and quenched in oil or water baths to complete the operations contemplated by Code 3110. The machining and finishing of the non-tool forged products including related die making operations must be separately rated under Code 3632. The machining and finishing of the tool forged products and related die making operations must be separately rated under Code 3114.
