Class Code: 3028
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Code 3028 is applied to the manufacture of iron or steel pipe or tube. It contemplates both seam and seamless pipe and tubing involving either a drawing process (hot or cold) or roll forming and machine welding processes. This classification is applied to the production of flexible steel tubing used for automotive exhaust systems, water lines, oil lines, etc.
Code 3028 is also applied to insureds engaged in the manufacture of cast iron pipe using centrifugal force. While different processes are utilized, the only difference is in the type of molds used in the centrifugal casting machines. The preliminary steps involve the melting of the scrap and pig iron in furnaces. All centrifugal cast pipe is cast in high speed revolving flasks or sand molds into which the hot metal is automatically poured from a ladle through a spout situated inside the revolving molds. The solidified pipes are then heat-treated, ground, pressure tested, coated or lined and unitized for shipment.
