Class Code: 2157

Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:

Code 2157 is applied to insureds engaged in the bottling or canning of carbonated and noncarbonated liquids as well as the warehousing, labeling, packaging and distributing of the product in states where the bottling or canning is performed. The bottling of wine and the canning of beer or ale, received in barrels from outside sources, also falls within the scope of this classification. Code 2157 further encompasses bottling or canning employees who erect or repair signs, advertising their employer’s product and employees who service and repair refrigerator boxes or coolers and vending machines owned by the insured. Route supervisors who have regular routes which they cover by truck, selling and delivering the insured’s product from the trucks, are also classified under Code 2157.

The canning of cream that is aerated under pressure is also assigned to Code 2157.

Code 2157 is a “not otherwise classified” (NOC) classification. This means that Code 2157 shall apply to an insured’s operation(s) only when no other classification more specifically describes the insured’s operation(s). The following is a representative list of operations somewhat related in nature to Code 2157 operations that are not assigned to Code 2157.

2111 Cannery NOC   2131 Spirituous Liquor Bottling
2143 Fruit Juice Mfg.   2143 Winery

In addition to this representative list, one should review sources such as the alphabetical index in this manual to determine whether a classification other than Code 2157 or a classification other than a classification on the above list is applicable to the operation(s) being reviewed for classification purposes.
