Class Code: 1699

Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:

Code 1699 is applied to insureds engaged in mineral insulation material manufacturing. It covers all mineral products which are derived by application of heat to the raw material in a type of furnace. Preliminary crushing operations are contemplated by this classification. Mineral wool is a mass of fine intertwined fibers formed by blowing air or steam through molten rock or slag. This shreds the slag into wool. The production of expanded shale aggregate, vermiculite, perlite and fiberglass used to form insulation material is also classified under Code 1699. To produce fiberglass insulation material, molten glass is drawn at high speeds through orifices, then subjected to jets of high pressure steam which break the glass filaments into fine fibers. This final product, regardless of raw material, may be shipped in granules which are bagged or formed into flat sheets, cut to a particular size, enclosed in paper or foil and packaged.
