Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:

Code 1164 applies to all employees performing underground mining involving the extraction of ores, stone, clay, or other minerals. The classification includes shaft sinking, slope sinking, rock tunneling, or other incidental development work for the production of metal when done by the operator’s employees. The ore rock is broken out by drilling and blasting with explosives. The equipment generally involves the use of rock drills, haulage locomotives and cars, hoisting equipment, ventilation equipment, air compressors, air and water pipes, electrical equipment, timber, track, and miscellaneous steel.

Code 1164 also applies to the excavation or expansion of areas in existing caves that are being used for exhibition purposes.
