Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:

Code 0106 applies to specialist contractors who use hand tools or mechanical equipment to prune, spray, repair, trim, or fumigate trees. Code 0106 is applied to risks that perform one or more of the aforementioned activities. These operations may be performed from ground level or by climbing the tree, or may require the use of ladders and/or aerial buckets.

The removal, chipping, cleanup, and haul away of tree limbs and debris are also assigned to Code 0106.

Repair operations may involve cutting large, uprooted trees into manageable pieces for removal and/or pulling trees upright. Code 0106 additionally includes incidental tree removal of one or a few trees on developed sites conducted in connection with the described operations.

Description:

Maintaining right-of-ways for electric or power lines, telephone or telegraph lines, or burglar or fire alarm lines may involve tree removal, tree pruning, or tree stump removal.

The following classification assignments apply to work involving trees for those risks contracting exclusively for clearing right-of-ways.

2702 Tree removal of standing timber using hand or power tools for the purpose of clearing right-of-ways on an undeveloped or developed site.
6217 Clearing or removal of brush using mechanical equipment such as bulldozers, hydroaxes, etc., for the purpose of clearing right-of-ways on an undeveloped or developed site.
0106 Tree pruning, spraying, and repairing for the purpose of maintaining right-of-ways or clearing existing right-of-ways on a developed site. Incidental tree removal of one or a few trees on a developed site conducted in connection with tree pruning, spraying, and repairing operations is also assigned to Code 0106.

Related Operations Not Classified to Code 0106:

An insured that clears right-of-ways and also engages in power line construction, service, or repair operations is assigned to the proper power line construction or erection classification. Refer to Code 7538 or Code 7600 for these operations.

Note:  Applicable to risks contracting exclusively to prune limbs, cleanup tree debris, and remove lodged or felled trees in the aftermath of a natural catastrophe. Code 0106—Tree Pruning and Removal—All Operations & Drivers—Natural Catastrophe may be assigned as an additional classification when separation of payroll exists. When no separation of payroll exists, the payroll for the entire operation must be assigned to the highest rated classification. Refer to Code 2702 for removal of standing trees and Code 6217 for removal of tree debris using mechanical equipment such as bulldozers and hydroaxes.

Description:

Code 0106 is applicable to risks contracting exclusively to remove immediate tree hazards due to natural catastrophes. Tree hazard cleanup may involve removing dead trees; trees or branches that are leaning on trees, power lines, or other structures; trees with broken or cracked stems; or large, dead or broken limbs that are still attached to a tree.

The following classification assignments apply to work involving trees for risks contracted exclusively to clean up tree debris:

6217 Clearing or removal of brush using mechanical equipment such as bulldozers, hydroaxes, etc.
0106 Cleaning, pruning or removal of tree brush using hand equipment such as chain saws.
