Class Code: 0083
Per NCCI's Scopes Code Description:
Code 0083 applies to all acreage or facilities devoted to the breeding and/or raising of cattle or livestock that is not otherwise classified. As evidenced by this code’s cross-reference, Code 0083 includes the raising of sheep or goats.
Code 0083 operations are of a custodial nature and include the tending, feeding, branding, rounding up, and shipping of the animals to market. The classification includes cultivating and harvesting operations performed at the ranches for feed or for grazing to feed the ranchers’ own cattle or livestock as well as the erecting and repairing of fences.
Code 0083 also applies to the raising of livestock included in this classification under environmentally controlled conditions. This operation can involve the use of confinement structures that are designed to stimulate livestock growth as well as protect the livestock from disease and contamination.
Dude ranches that also operate as cattle ranches are classified to Code 0083. Dude ranches that do not also operate as cattle ranches are assigned to Code 9052.
A division of payroll is permitted for employers that artificially inseminate cattle. Professional employees of these employers are classified to Code 8831, while all other employees of these employers, excluding clerical and outside salespersons, are classified to Code 0083.
In Minnesota and Wisconsin, Code 0006 is applicable to cattle, hog, horse, and stock farms.
Certain Code 0083 operations are designated as “not otherwise classified” (NOC). These NOC operations apply to an employer only when no other classification more specifically describes the employer’s operations. The following is a representative list of operations somewhat related in nature to Code 0083 operations that are not assigned to Code 0083:
|Farm—Animal Raising & Drivers
|Farm—Poultry or Egg Producer & Drivers
|Livestock Dealer or Commission Merchant & Salespersons, Drivers
|Stable or Breeding Farm & Drivers
Massachusetts Risks engaged in the business of artificial insemination of cattle are assigned, by analogy, to Code 0083 and Code 8831. Professional employees of these risks are assigned to Code 8831, while all other employees of these risks, excluding clerical and outside salespersons, are separately rated under Code 0083. Code 0083 is also applied to insureds operating as livestock or cattle dealers or commission merchants (Code 8288 N/A MA).
