State Special: Arizona—Farm—Field Crops—All Employees—applies to all acreage devoted to raising hay; alfalfa, all cereal grains such as wheat, barley, corn and oats; all sorghums; flax; maize; cotton; dry peas; dry beans; sugar beets; and safflower.

Hawaii—Plantation—Sugar or Pineapple & Drivers—includes cannery and mill employees. Refer to Code 2021 for sugar manufacturing and refining from sugarcane or sugar beets;

Idaho—Farm—Field Crops & Drivers—a division of payroll is allowed among Codes 8288, 0083 and 0037 for employers that perform cattle ranching or crop raising in conjunction with feedlot operations, provided verifiable records are maintained. If the payroll records do not reveal an accurate segregation of payroll, the entire payroll must be assigned to the highest rated classification;

Louisiana—Rice Farm—All Employees & Drivers—does not include in-servants;

Maine—Farm—Potato—Field Crops & Drivers—this classification is applicable to the cultivation and harvesting of potatoes; Farm—Potato—Storage Warehouse—Code 8292—this classification is applicable to storage warehouses operating in conjunction with potato farms;

Growing, and irrigating. All hoeing by hand will be assigned to Code 0008 regardless of the product involved unless specifically excluded. The hand harvesting of field crops to be separately rated as Code 0008. Mechanized harvesting to be classified to Code 0037. A division of payroll is allowed between Codes 8288, 0083, 0036 and 0037 for firms that operate dairy farming, cattle ranching or crop raising in conjunction with feedlot operations, provided verifiable records are maintained. In the event the payroll records do not reveal an accurate segregation of payroll, the entire payroll must be assigned to the highest rated classification.

Growing and harvesting of crops used as feed for the insured’s own cattle is assigned to Code 0037, provided that verifiable payroll records are maintained. In the event the payroll records do not reveal an accurate segregation of payroll between Code 0037 and Code 0036, or Code 0037 and Code 0083, the entire payroll must be assigned to Code 0036 or Code 0083, respectively;

The crops contemplated under Code 0037 generally have a long growing season and are harvested upon reaching maturity at the end of the season.

Agricultural research stations which grow the above crops for research purposes are also contemplated by Code 0037.

Additionally, sod growing and harvesting operations are included under Code 0037. Sod dealers who do not grow sod are properly classified to Code 0005. Sod installers are classified to Code 0042.

As indicated by this classification’s cross-reference, farm operations not otherwise classified in the Basic Manual are to be classified to Code 0037. Representative “NOC” operations that have been classified to this code include cotton picking, corn detasselling, alfalfa dehydration by farmers, moss gathering, peppermint distilling by farmers, miscellaneous spice growing not listed above and grazing land maintenance.
